Augustiner Festhalle
Augustiner
The Augustiner-Festhalle seats 6,000 indoors plus 2,500 in the beer garden at Oktoberfest 2026. It is the only tent that still serves beer from wooden barrels (Holzfässer), pouring Augustiner Edelstoff at around €14.50 per Maß — typically the cheapest of the six Munich breweries. Widely considered the most traditional and the unanimous Münchner favourite. Run by the Vollmer family; reservations cover two Maß plus a meal voucher.

What it's actually like
If you ask a Münchner where to drink at Oktoberfest, the answer is almost always "Augustiner". This is the tent that takes itself the most seriously about tradition: beer is still tapped from wooden Holzfässer rather than steel kegs, the brass band sticks to Blasmusik longer than anyone else, and the crowd is overwhelmingly local, family-friendly, and middle-aged. The food is the genuine Bavarian canon — Schweinsbraten with knödel, half roast chicken, Obatzda — done well rather than reinvented. The trade-off is that Augustiner is the hardest reservation to land for exactly this reason: it sells out faster than Hofbräu, especially for weekday lunch slots, which is what the locals book. If you are coming to Oktoberfest because you actually want to drink Munich beer in the old style and you can plan ahead, this is the tent. If you want a party with international strangers and pop covers, book somewhere else — you will be the loud Australian table at a family lunch.

Frequently asked questions
Why is Augustiner the locals' favourite at Oktoberfest?▼
Three reasons: it is the only tent that still serves beer from wooden barrels (Holzfässer), the food is more traditionally Bavarian than the international tents, and the brass band stays with Blasmusik for longer rather than switching to pop covers in the evening. The crowd reflects that — it is the most German-speaking large tent.
Can I get into the Augustiner-Festhalle without a reservation?▼
Difficult but possible. Augustiner does not have a standing-room area like Hofbräu, but the beer garden (2,500 seats) operates first-come, first-served until full. Arrive before 11:00 on weekends or before 12:00 on weekdays. Once the tent is full, the doors close.
How much does an Augustiner-Festhalle reservation cost?▼
A table of 10 costs roughly €350–€520 depending on session. Augustiner Edelstoff is around €14.50 per Maß — typically the cheapest large-tent beer at Oktoberfest 2026. Each reservation includes two Maß plus a food voucher per guest.
When does the Augustiner-Festhalle open and close?▼
Daily 10:00 to 22:30, the standard for all 14 large tents. Lunch reservation sessions typically run 10:00–15:00 weekdays, with evening sessions 15:00–22:30. Weekends and holidays are full-day reservations.
How do I book Augustiner-Festhalle for 2026?▼
Reservations open in January at festhalle-augustiner.com. Book the moment they open — Augustiner sells out faster than any other tent, often within an hour for weekday lunch slots. For group enquiries, email festhalle@augustiner-restaurant.de or call +49 89 23183266.
What is the difference between Augustiner-Festhalle and the regular Augustiner Bräustuben?▼
The Festhalle is the Oktoberfest tent (only operating during the 16 days of the Wiesn). The Bräustuben on Landsberger Straße is the year-round Augustiner pub. Same brewery, same beer, but the Festhalle is several thousand seats vs. a few hundred.
Is the Augustiner-Festhalle family-friendly?▼
Yes — more so than most large tents. Lunch sessions in particular have a much higher proportion of families and older locals. The atmosphere stays civilised even into the evening compared to Hofbräu or Hacker.
