Weinzelt (Wine Tent)

Weinzelt (Wine Tent)

The Weinzelt is the only large tent at Oktoberfest focused on wine rather than beer, seating 1,300 indoors plus 600 in the garden at Oktoberfest 2026 — the smallest of the 14 large tents. It serves over 15 different Franconian and German wines plus sparkling wine and champagne, along with Paulaner Weißbier as the only beer option. Open until 01:00 — one of only two late-closing large tents, the other being Käfer. The crowd skews older and the atmosphere is intimate.

What it's actually like

The Weinzelt is the contrarian tent. Every other large tent at Oktoberfest is built around beer; the Weinzelt is built around wine — over 15 Franconian and German wines plus a serious sparkling and champagne list. Beer drinkers are not abandoned (Paulaner Weißbier is the sole beer on offer), but if you walk in expecting Augustiner or Spaten, you are in the wrong tent. The atmosphere is the most intimate of the 14 large tents at 1,900 combined seats, the music is live acoustic and DJ rather than brass band, and the closing time is 01:00 — three hours later than every tent except Käfer. The crowd is older, more affluent, and the dress code skews higher-end Tracht. If you do not like beer but want to experience Oktoberfest, this is the right tent. If you want hearty Bavarian food and a brass band, you will be disappointed.

Best for

  • Wine drinkers and sparkling-wine fans
  • Older or non-beer-drinking visitors
  • Late-night drinking (open until 01:00)
  • A more intimate, smaller-scale Wiesn experience

Avoid if

  • You came to Oktoberfest specifically for beer
  • You want a large brass-band party
  • You want traditional hearty Bavarian food

Frequently asked questions

Does the Weinzelt serve beer?

Yes, but only Paulaner Weißbier — no Helles, no other breweries. The Weinzelt is the only large tent at Oktoberfest focused on wine, and serves over 15 Franconian and German wines plus a serious champagne and sparkling-wine list. If you want a standard Oktoberfest beer experience, choose a different tent.

When does the Weinzelt close?

The Weinzelt closes at 01:00 — three hours later than the 12 standard large tents. Only Käfer Wiesn-Schänke stays open later (01:15). This makes the Weinzelt one of the two natural choices for the late-night portion of an Oktoberfest evening.

How expensive is the Weinzelt?

Mid-range to expensive depending on what you drink. Franconian wines by the glass run €10–€15, sparkling wine €14–€30 per glass, champagne €120+ per bottle. Food (Flammkuchen €14, cheese platter €18, smoked salmon €20) is moderately priced for Oktoberfest. Less expensive than Käfer overall.

Can I get into the Weinzelt without a reservation?

Difficult. The Weinzelt is the smallest of the 14 large tents (1,900 capacity) and walk-in entry is harder than any other tent except Käfer. Late-night walk-in (after 22:30 when other tents close) is sometimes possible, but evening tables require a reservation.

How do I book the Weinzelt for 2026?

Reservations open in January at reservierung.weinzelt.com. Evening sessions and weekend slots sell out within weeks. Lunch is the most accessible window for first-time bookers.

Who goes to the Weinzelt?

The crowd skews older (40s–60s), more affluent, and more wine-literate than the other Oktoberfest tents. Many regulars are Munich locals who deliberately want a non-beer evening. Late-night drinkers from other tents drift in after 22:30 when their tents close.
